The Open Door House Named One of 32 Recipients in Community Giving Initiative

We are honored to be featured in a recent Cabarrus Compass article highlighting 32 local nonprofits that collectively received more than $385,000 in community support.

While the article celebrates many incredible organizations making a difference throughout Cabarrus County, it also serves as a reminder of something we see every day: lasting change happens when a community comes together.

As our founder, Kathy Lista, often shares:
"When I first learned about the realities facing young adults aging out of foster care, I couldn't stop thinking about what would happen if my own children were suddenly expected to navigate adulthood alone. That burden became a calling, and today, every life transformed through The Open Door House is a testament to what is possible when a community chooses to show up with compassion, consistency, and hope."

At The Open Door House, we believe every young adult deserves more than a place to stay. They deserve stability, support, meaningful relationships, and the opportunity to discover their God-given potential. Through our residential program, life skills training, mentoring, career development, and supportive community, we are helping young adults aging out of foster care build brighter futures.

We are deeply grateful to every donor, volunteer, mentor, community partner, and advocate who makes this work possible. Your generosity is helping us create lasting change and open doors of opportunity for young adults who need it most.

Thank you for being part of our story.
